From time to time, I hear about all of these things that people think about boudoir that I just couldn’t agree with more. So many people think that you have to be in the best shape of your life, engaged or ready to be naked in front of the camera. And those reasons are just not true. The one reason that I absolutely love boudoir is because there are no wrong reasons to do it! You don’t have to be engaged to do it, heck, you don’t even have to be in a relationship to do a session! I love when my clients decide to do a session just for themselves and to feel empowered in their very own skin. I’m going over a few of my favorite boudoir myths and why they are nothing to get down and out on!
You Have To Be Naked
Don’t get me wrong, you can absolutely do a nude shoot if you’d like but there is nothing saying that you have to be nude at all! One of the fun parts of doing a boudoir session is picking out the lingerie. Depending on your style and the look you are going for, there are countless options for you to pick from. Whether you want to be on the more revealing and risqué side of sweet and romantic, there are so many different options that you can choose from. Lingerie is one of the things that I will go over with you during your consultation ad I even create a custom Pinterest board for you to get some ideas from, so there is nothing to worry about!
You Have To Be Skinny
If you have been following me for awhile, you know that I am a huge believer in loving your body as you are today. I’m guilty of wanting to lose a few pounds too but I believe that every woman is gorgeous just the way they are. I always hear potential clients saying that they will call me again when they lose 10 pounds. If you are constantly putting it off due to how you feel about yourself, you may never get around to doing it. I think the perfect time to embrace your body is right now.
You Have To Be Young
Sometimes I hear from potential clients that they wished they knew about boudoir when they were younger. There is no age limit on capturing your beauty! I’ve had clients in all age rages. I love being able to capture different women in all stages of their life. Whether they are just engaged or they just had a baby or maybe they just retired, we are all beautiful no matter how old we are. Remember, age is just a number!
You Have To Be Confident
Getting in front of a camera half naked can be intimidating, I get it!! I’ve been behind the camera so many times and I still break a sweat a few minutes before. It does get easier the more you do it but it’s always a little nerve-racking, no matter how experienced you are. I find that the moment you step in front of the camera and the moment the session is over, it’s almost like you have completely changed. The more poses you get through and the longer you are in front of the camera, your confidence starts to shine through. Being nervous is totally normal!
You Have To Gift The Photos
If you want to do a session for yourself, that is more than enough for a reason to do a session. I think because one of the most common reasons to do a session is for a partner that it makes it seem like you have to gift the images to someone. Almost every client that I shoot with ends up saying that it ended up being more of a gift for her than for her sweetie. The process of picking out the style and the poses to the session itself to picking out the images, makes them feel so in love with their body again! It ends up being a gift for yourself to really boost your confidence so if you want to celebrate yourself, book a session! You absolutely do not need a significant other, you can gift the images to yourself.
