As a photographer, you are probably thinking that running a blog is just too much effort and work. I totally get it! But, having a blog is a great way to market yourself and have a little fun while doing so. It may seem like you have nothing to write about but I promise there are so many topics out there. Just think about all of the common questions you get from clients, how great would those be as blog posts?
Once you rack your brain with all the great topics, it's time to sit down and type away. Whether you love to write in the moment or batch write a few posts at once, do whatever works best for you and your schedule. Once you have it written, you want to make sure you are getting your blog post in front of as many people as possible. it's a great way to get new people to your website and gain readers at the same time. Someone may not book with you right away but they may follow your blog for awhile before biting the bullet to book a session.
The internet has opened up so many avenues of traffic for you. One of my favorite ways to drive traffic to my blog is through social media platforms. Social media is all about being social so you want to make sure you are sticking to the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time you should be helping your clients and 20% of the time should be dedicated to marketing and selling. If you oversell, you are going to lose followers fast. Blog posts are a great way to help your clients and give them information that they want. From session theme ideas to the perfect lingerie, these are all things they are probably wondering about anyway.
Facebook is a great way to share your blog posts. You don't have to share a blog post every single day but I recommend sharing at least one or two a week. You don't always have to be sharing your newest post either, you have great content that you wrote years ago that your newer audience has never seen before. Don't be afraid to share those posts too! If any of the information is outdated, feel free to update it to make it relevant to today. If you are in any Facebook groups, keep an eye on those groups from time to time. If someone asks a question that you have an answer to in a blog post, share away! Sometimes, groups will also let you share your latest post on a certain of a week. It definitely doesn't hurt to be sharing your blogs in those groups as well.
Pinterest is a great place to share content. It's more of a search engine than a social media platform so you want to treat it as a search engine. SEO plays a huge roll when it comes to Pinterest so be sure that you are using the correct keywords to get your blog posts found. There are so many great schedulers out there so you can schedule a months worth of content.
Being in someone's inbox is a special privilege so you want to make sure that you aren't overloading them with just blog posts! But, your newsletter is a great way to share some of your favorite blog posts. Not everyone who is on your list may be following your blog and vice versa!
These are just a few easy ways to drive traffic to your blog. Don't be afraid to get a little creative with your strategy and share away!
