One thing that tends to get forgotten about when you have a packed schedule full of clients is your blog. From meetings to sessions to editing, there is just no time for writing! One thing that I have learned over the years is to dedicate one day a week or month to my blog. If you can’t outsource or hire someone to help you, batch writing for your blog is extremely helpful.
You may be asking yourself, what exactly is batch working? Batch working is taking a few hours or days to really focus on on specific type of work, like writing. You will dive into your blog for a set amount of time. If you finish a blog post in that time frame, great - keep going! It allows you to really get into the writing mindset and write as much as you can in that set time. It’s the complete opposite idea of multitasking. When you are constantly changing direction and switching tasks, you can lose a lot of time just trying to refocus.
If you are thinking about batch working your blogs, here are a few tips to get you started!
Topics and Ideas
One thing that you may feel like you are running short on is content ideas. When you’ve been blogging for years, you will feel like you’ve talked about everything boudoir. I love creating a big list of ideas that I can always look back on, especially when it’s time to get writing. Create a list on your computer or your phone, somewhere that you can edit from anywhere. Write down as many ideas as you possibly can. Think about all the questions that your clients ask you during your meetings and sessions. These are all great topics to talk about! Once you start down the idea road, you will most likely get more and more ideas. If you get stuck, take a look on Pinterest for some inspiration and even check out your own blog to see what you are missing.
The actual writing of the blog posts is going to save you so much time if you can batch it together. It allows you to schedule posts ahead of time instead of writing and posting that blog every time you promise your audience you will be showing up. Whether you are publishing blogs once a week or five times a week, batch working your writing will help you get ahead. Set aside a day a week or maybe just a few hours to do just your writing. Put on some music and just write. Write as much as you can in that set time. When the time is up, you can move on to your next task.
Writing and editing can be some of the most time consuming tasks when it comes to your blog. Set aside some time to edit all of those blogs you have written that is separate from your writing time. When you have been staring at those words for so long you may miss something! Give yourself a break before you start editing after writing a few hours and do all of your editing in one session! Once you are done, you can add images and schedule all of those blogs!
You can do batch working for just about anything. It allows you to get super focused on one task and knock out as much as you can in that time frame. Whether you want to dedicate certain days of the week to certain tasks or even just a few hours each week, you will most likely see a huge spike in productivity!
