Skin Imperfections? Here’s How I Handle Editing!

None of us have perfect bodies and guess what? That’s okay! I might be biased because I am in the industry of boudoir photography, but one of the best ways to feel more comfortable and in tune with your body is through boudoir photography.

When it comes to body image and your boudoir session, one of the most frequently asked questions I get is how I handle skin imperfections. Bruises, pimples, scratches, stretch marks, cellulite. My goal is to make you feel as confident in your body as possible, which is why I am very strategic about my editing process.

How I Handle Editing Skin Imperfections

When I’m editing photos, I always remove anything that is not permanent on the skin. This includes pimples, any bruising, scratches, and imprint lines from clothing. Once I do this, I smooth the skin which helps soften the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite. Since these are more permanent features of the body, I typically do not remove them entirely unless asked by the client!

I also don’t remove tattoos unless specifically asked by a client. In those cases, the size and placement of the tattoo on the body will affect whether or not I can remove it entirely. If I’m unable to do so, we’ll utilize various clothing and posing options to help hide it.

Boudoir Posing & Angles

Boudoir photography is all about posing and angles and it’s okay if you don’t know how to pose prior to your session! I will work closely with you to help you pose and don’t worry - I’ll only put you in poses that I can do myself.

Most of the posing and angles I shoot from also take care of the most “concerning” parts of the body that a lot of clients are self-conscious of, so the skin smoothing I do while editing is the cherry on top!

Our Client Questionnaire

Prior to your boudoir session, I send over a very thorough questionnaire that gives more information about tattoos, what parts of your body you absolutely love on yourself, and what areas you don’t want to highlight as much.

Should I Tan Before My Session?

If you want to, you can, but don’t worry about it! The way I edit images already adds a nice glow to the skin. I also edit on the darker side, which gives the skin a more tanned appearance. If your arms and legs are tanner than other areas of your body, such as your stomach, I also make sure to even out skin tones during the editing process.

The only thing you have to worry about prior to your shoot is to avoid getting too much sun! Sunburns and peeling can be hard to edit. On the days leading up to your session, make sure to drink lots of water to help achieve a nice glow and even skin tone!
