Tips for Doing Your Makeup for Your Boudoir Shoot

Your boudoir session is booked, you’ve picked out your looks, and now comes the fun part: figuring out how you want to do your makeup. I always recommend clients do their makeup for their boudoir session heavier than they would on a regular day. Not everyone is used to creating an ultra-glam makeup look but working with a makeup artist isn’t always in the budget!

Tips for Doing Your Makeup for Your Boudoir Shoot

Start with a Clean Face

Starting with a clean face is the only way you’ll be able to create a glamorous makeup look that’ll last the entirety of your boudoir session. Always start with a cleanser, your regular skin care products, and finish with a moisturizer and primer. This will help ensure your makeup doesn’t budge.

Opt for Full-Coverage Products

Full-coverage, matte products are going to help you create a smooth skin tone that doesn’t make you look shiny in the final images. Make sure the colors you use match your skin tone and focus on blending. This will help make sure your face matches the rest of your body.

Apply More Color Than Normal

When it comes to blush and bronzer, always apply more than you usually do. The camera can wash out about 40% of color and applying more color than normal will help make sure your makeup is captured.

Practice, Practice, Practice

The worst thing you can do is try doing ultra-glam makeup for the first time on the day of your boudoir session. Not only will this (most likely) leave you frustrated and in tears, if it doesn’t work out how you want on the first try. The last thing you want is to not feel your best on your special day! Always practice your makeup a few times leading up to your big day to make sure you’re comfortable doing your makeup and to make sure you don’t have any reactions to new products.
